Many sites link to this site. More than any other of my web sites. So, I have added this page in December of 2004 to explain to you why. I have added the link to ICUWeb.Net which is what I have been up to since the link to this site started appearing on various other web sites.

The reason for WombatsWeb.Com is explained on the original site, but of course it's buried in there somewhere. It was originally for my graduation into the world of the Internet. I brought up a Windows NT4 Server and was hosting my own web site from my home. It was mainly for testing. I started learning scripting using ASP and one of my bright ideas was to post a classifieds section for the local music community here in Philadelphia. I've been playing music since the 3rd grade, and I started in with the guitar when I was 13 years old. Since then I have been involved with the local "scene" since I was old enough to look like what my ID said to get into the clubs.

So, one reason why there might be a link to this site is because of the classifieds. That didn't really pan out, but it's cool. Some people use it now and again, and I think some people have had success using it. Another reason may be because I do sound. I added a link to Wombat Sound as well. The final reason why I think someone may have linked to my web site is because I do Internet services. I do Web Hosting mainly but also do design. I of course have added the link to ICUWeb.Net to get you there faster as well. ICUWeb encompasses ICUHost, ICUDesign, ICUGuest, ICUForum and ICULinux. I think maybe some people didn't want to put the actual link to those services for whatever reason.

Other than that, I don't know why someone would have linked to my site. But hey, you're here ... Why not take a look around. Welcome to my world.

Since WombatsWeb.Com started, and I learned all this nifty stuff, I started designing dynamic web sites. The more I did this, the more I got involved in hosting those sites on other people's servers. So, I quickly became frustrated with many aspects of this. I bit the bullet and decided to do my own hosting. I brought in a T1 to my home and started hosting using 2 machines. Those two machines did DNS, SMTP, POP3, FTP and HTTP for all the sites that I hosted. Since I originally did this, I have switched providers for a better class of T1. I have learned FreeBSD and have many more FreeBSD Servers than Windows servers. There is no comparison. Now FreeBSD Servers are running my firewall, DNS and Mail Server much more reliably than the Windows Servers ever did. There are now separate machines handling these tasks. I have about 50 machines online now. My language of choice now is PHP and I don't write anything in ASP anymore. Basically, the Windows machines are there for people that need to be hosted on a Windows machine for whatever reason. I will eventually move all my personal sites from the Windows machines to FreeBSD machines. So far I haven't had the time.

Anyway, I think that's more than I wanted to cover here, so ... Thanks for reading.
